Postdoc in Human Mucosal Immunology

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Mucosal Immunology Group headed by Professor William Agace at the Division of Experimental and Translational Immunology, Department of Health Technology, the Technical University of Denmark. The successful candidate will join a superb team of international researchers within the newly established NovoNordisk Foundation challenge grant-funded ‘Center for Intestinal Immune Regulation (CIIR)’. CIIR comprises of 4 collaborating teams (Agace, DTU; McCoy, Calgary (Canada); Bendtsen, Hvidovre hospital; Rønn-Larsen, DTU) whose combined expertise in mucosal immunology, gastroenterology, microbiota-host interactions, bioinformatics and state-of-the-art animal models aims to identify intestinal immune-stromal interactions important in intestinal homeostasis and in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  In joining you will be part of a highly vibrant and cross-disciplinary team of researchers at the international forefront of mucosal immunology research.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your project is to identify immune-stromal interactions in the intestine that are key for intestinal health and, in the setting of IBD, in promoting intestinal immune pathology. For this you will combine state-of-the-art techniques in the isolation of immune compartments from healthy and IBD intestinal tissues (surgical material and biopsies, see, Fenton et alImmunity, 2020.; Jørgensen et al Nat. Protocols, 2021) with scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, scTCR/BCR, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics and in vitro co-culture techniques. The project is multi-disciplinary and will involve close collaborations with clinicians at nearby hospitals, participating bioinformaticians as well as researchers determining mechanism of action in immunologically relevant animal models.

You must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in immunology, be highly motivated, have the ability to work independently but also enjoy contributing and working within a team.  The successful candidates will have documented experience in the analysis of human tissues (preferably intestinal), multi-color flow cytometry and cell sorting, scRNA-seq techniques and scRNA-seq data analysis. Experience with spatial transcriptomics/proteomics techniques, cell/organ cultures, as well as education in mucosal immunology will be considered a merit.

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 3 years full time with a starting date of 1 January 2023 (or according to mutual agreement).

Degrees of interest: Dottorato di ricerca o equivalente in immunologia
